Of the highest rarity, apparently the second known example
Lot 1377
Gordian III, 238-244. Antoninianus (Silver, 23 mm, 5.76 g, 11 h), Antiochia, 239-240. IMP CAES M ANT GORDIANVS AVG Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III to right, seen from behind. Rev. SALVS AVGVSTI Spes advancing left, holding flower in her right hand and raising her skirt with her left. Bland 58 (one example known). Cohen -. Michaux 568 (this coin illustrated). RIC -. Of the highest rarity, apparently the second known example. A highly interesting type struck on a particularly heavy flan. Minor porosity and with some small die breaks on the obverse, otherwise, good very fine.

From the collection of Dipl.-Ing. Adrian Lang, ex Fischer 158, 15 September 2017, 423 and Lanz 123, 30 May 2005, 751.

The unusual combination of Spes with the inscriptions SALVS AVGVSTI is attested in at least one more reverse die and is hence likely not an engraver's error, but an intended variety.
